Complete or compete.....

Writer: casey browncasey brown

Most of the time I talk about movement for 'general' health, fitness and overall wellbeing. But we do have a number of clients where 'performance' is their drive, and we strive to get them to a level where they are competitive and able to perform really well.

If you want to be or do better, then you may need to do different to what you have always done.

I want to chat about running today, as we have seen an increase in clients entering events again during the second part of the year. Some of which will simply be happy to get to the start line, to make it to the finish line, and time won't be on their radar.

But other times, people will come to us and say, 'I want to run faster' 'I want to do it in X time or under'. They have been running for years and there hasn't been any real improvement in their pace or achievements over that time. If you are one of these people, it's important to realise although running seems like an easy concept, shoes on, out the door, run - There really is a lot more to it, if you want to improve or be greater.

Points to think about, do you...

1) Run at the same pace for each run, week in-week out?

2) Do you run the same distances, on the same days, week in-week out?

3) Do you have heavier weeks and lighter weeks over your training phase?

4) Do you plan to peak and taper before race day or peak at race day?

5) Are you doing run-specific strength exercises on days that don't impact your next run day?

6) Are you fuelling and replenishing your body adequately so you can train at the intensity you need to be?

7) Do you truly understand what 'an easy' run feels and looks like?

8) Are you stuck on the treadmill, stuck on a certain loop or trail, and find it difficult to change things up?

🤯Now is your mind boggling? See there is more to running then we think. If you have an event coming up, we would love to design a personalised plan for you to progress you as you wish, whether this is too [complete] or [compete], for your race day. Take the hardness out of it, and ensure your training is as efficient as it can and needs to be.
